The original APP used yellow and red highlights to emphasize alerts,  stating opening hours. Once the store has the alert of either "order ahead not available" or "closed", the customers can no longer view the menu.

Now window alerts are more obvious, and give the option of view menu to the customers, allowing further construction of the schedule order function.

Problem statement

Users find that the “choose a store” function in the Starbucks app doesn’t clearly show the store states. This might be a problem because users who want to save time will essentially spend more time looking for an open store and ordering online.

Project Background and Research Findings

  • Users were not notified by the "closing soon" and "order ahead not available" alerts.

  • The map didn't show great contrasts to clarify the store states.

  • Store hours and drive-thru hours are different but not shown on the page.

Biggest Problem I met

Many things could be changed. Some might have bigger improvements to the app features, and others might be more feasible to work on.

  • competitors analysis to see what other apps are good at

  • 2 x 2 matrix to prioritize features impacting the app more and having higher feasibility

Redesign the App

Adjusting layouts and features of the “choose a store” function:

  • Grey out closed stores

  • Prioritize open stores with mobile ordering

  • Use icons to represent the store states

  • Use window alert to show closing stores and order ahead not available stores

  • Enlarge open store size of dots on the map

Further Improvements

  • enlarge the font sizes in the app/adjustable font size

  • schedule order
